In a previous post, I mentioned the grief with my soon to be former bank.
Now at the eleventh hour they send me some sort of an apology..
Why wait until I switch my account away before apologising? Why not be able to do what banks could do in the past.. review an account on its merits?
Simple answer.. Computer Says No! If the computer says no, despite common sense and obvious information saying this is a mistake, the computer is always right.
I remember about ten years ago my car broke down badly – something to do with the engine and I was at a garage. I saw a car I could buy rather than paying more than the broken car was worth, so I phoned up (yes PHONED UP) my local bank manager, explained the situation and he sympathised, asked me how much the car was and said the money would be available in 20 minutes. All I had to do was pop in later in the day to sign the forms that would be ready and waiting. Two hours later I was back home with a (newer) car.
Imagine today.. foreign call centres, online applications, computer credit scores. I’d still be stuck at the garage!
Update: I have been offered “compensation” plus reduced monthly business charges if I stay with my current bank – I’ll give ’em another 3 months!!
