The Last 12 Months.. Is It Progress Or What?

Today, following a group meeting, it made me reflect on what has actually changed and what progress I have made over the past 12 months. It’s my birthday next week so now is a good time to look back. This is a very personal account, but feel my story will help others in a similar situation.

January 2016-Where I Was

I was in a bad relationship, suffering from severe depression and anxiety often unable to go out of the house. My business and finances were the pits. I was struggling to make ends meet and just felt like life wasn’t worth living. I had few friends with the exception of work colleagues. Health wise, my knee was making strange noises and popping out occasionally making me “wonder when is the next time”.

January 2017-Progress

I am single, living with my two dogs and still suffer from mental health issues but my medication has been changed as I reached out to my GP and asked for help. Don’t get me wrong, I still have duvet days.

My finances have improved slightly and I am slowly regaining the motivation I lost to start making a difference with my business – this is what I call slow “work in progress”.

I now have a close circle of friends, whom I can rely on to help me out – indeed just this morning, one friend helped me out when I was stuck and I’m eternally grateful to her. Yes I still have problems socialising with strangers and crowds and think I will for a long while.

On Friday, I’m going into hospital to hopefully have my knee fixed – call it an early birthday present from the NHS. Whilst I am grateful, it means quite a long recovery where I cannot work, get out or drive 🙁

In the last twelve months, things have definitely improved and wonder what I’ll write this time next year??
